Commissioners' Letter

Simply put, Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant’s main focus is providing ratepayers with reliable, competitively-priced services in a sustainable, environmentally-sensitive and customer-centric manner. At the end of the day, the things that matter most to our customers are: did the lights, heat and/or internet stay on? If not, how long were customers without these vital services and was the person on the other end of the phone friendly and helpful when these issues were reported? And are customers paying a reasonable price for these services, and who is looking out for their interests?

What TMLP does in the course of a day determines whether you as a TMLP customer get the high quality services you deserve at a cost-effective rate, whether power comes from reliable and environmentally-friendly sources, and whether that power and internet is delivered to you in a safe and efficient manner by a trained and knowledgeable staff.

These efforts were recognized by the American Public Power Association (APPA) in 2018 when our utility was awarded the prestigious Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) designation, an honor earned by less than 12% of the more than 2,000 public power utilities in the nation. The RP3 program is based on industry-recognized leading practices for public power utilities in four important areas: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. The designation demonstrates that we are performing at a high level based on the stringent criteria and evaluation of operational safety practices, outage management, system planning, capital investment, emergency preparedness, investment in advanced technology, employee training and work force development. TMLP will proudly carry this title as a RP3 utility.

Our ratepayers also weighed in during the year with their own evaluation of TMLP as part of a bi-annual two-tiered customer satisfaction survey. We again rated extremely well in all categories, especially in customer service and communication with our customers. This is a true testament to TMLP responsiveness and commitment to those we serve.

TMLP has always put its customers first. You can see it in the way our customers rate us, and you can see it in our commitment to be environmentally and fiscally responsible. Our energy portfolio is diverse and increasingly sustainable, our rates remain low and our record of reliability is enviable.

That’s what matters to us at the end of the day.
